Watermelon Web Works has been designing high quality websites for businesses in Bend, Oregon and beyond since 2002.

What we have learned is that there are a few primary areas of focus to any good web design.

Web Design for Bend, Oregon Businesses

Bend is a different market than Portland. You’ve got a mix of local service businesses, tourism-driven traffic, and companies competing at a regional or national level. That means your website needs to do two things well, show up for local searches like “Bend web design” or “Bend [your service]”, and convert visitors quickly once they land. We build sites that handle both, with structure, speed, and clarity that match how people actually search and make decisions.

Websites should be easy to use

One of the most important aspects to a website is that it is highly usable. If you have the prettiest website design and it is difficult or frustrating for users, you’ve lost the opportunity before they ever understand what you do. We design with clarity first, making it easy for visitors to move, understand, and take action without friction.

Websites should always accomplish business goals

At the end of the quarter, your website should be doing real work for you. More leads, better-qualified inquiries, smoother operations. Our process starts with understanding how your business actually generates revenue, how customers find you, and where things are breaking down. From there, we build a site that supports those goals instead of just looking good.

What’s usually going wrong with websites we see in Bend

Most sites aren’t failing because of one big issue. It’s usually a stack of smaller problems that quietly cost you business.

  • Slow load times, especially on mobile
  • Sites that look fine but don’t generate leads
  • SEO that was set up once and never revisited
  • Page builders or plugins creating long-term performance and maintenance issues

If your site feels like it should be doing more but isn’t, this is usually where we start.

Your website serves a specific purpose for visitors

If your website is not useful, people won’t come back. So we focus on structure, content, and functionality that match real user intent. Whether someone is searching locally, comparing options, or trying to make a quick decision, the site needs to guide them cleanly. We measure, measure, measure and adjust until it works the way it should.

If your site is slow or unreliable, that’s usually a deeper issue we address during performance-focused WordPress work. The goal is not just improvement, it’s stability over time.

We regularly work with Oregon-based businesses and understand how local search and regional competition plays out here. Markets like Bend behave differently, and your site needs to reflect that.

And yes, your website should look sharp. Clean, professional, and aligned with how your business presents itself in the real world. People make quick judgments. Your website is often the first one. We take that seriously.

Not sure what’s working and what’s not? We can take a look and give you a clear answer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work with Bend businesses remotely?

Yes. Most of our work is done remotely, but we stay closely involved and responsive throughout the process.

Can you help improve an existing site instead of rebuilding?

In many cases, yes. We often start by identifying what’s actually broken before recommending a rebuild.

How long does a typical project take?

It depends on complexity, but most projects move from planning to launch in a structured and predictable way.

We also provide:

Hoyt Arboretum: WordPress Migration with Custom Design and Integration

Hoyt Arboretum is a 189 acre park and learning center located in Portland, Oregon. It contains over 2300 species of trees from all over the world and provides educational and recreational opportunities for the community. The site was migrated to WordPress and incorporates a much-improved custom responsive design. Community members can register and pay for classes and events through Events Manager Pro, and a Gravity Forms powered custom donation form integrates seamlessly with the Bloomerang CRM. These new features replaced the cumbersome manual processes that the organization was forced to use previously.

If we both decide it’s a good match, that’s great! The next step will be to get on a call with our team to discuss the finer details of your project. We will take that information and distill it down into a detailed, line-item estimate that shows the exact time, cost, and technology required to complete your project.

Watermelon Web Works has been incredible to work with. They are patient, understanding, and quick to answer any questions (or emergencies) you might have. After switching over to them to help re-vamp our online retail store, we hired them to build our wholesale website as well. I can't recommend them enough - Thank you team!

My previous web developer who I was very happy with retired and I was pretty sad about it because it seems now days it is hard to hire a web developer close by with a good set of skills who is interested in helping small business at reasonable prices. Then I found Watermelon and I have been very happy. They are responsive, are able to solve problems, and work at reasonable prices.

Great work and amazing service! We're a non-profit, and our priorities are always focused on maintaining the Astoria Column. We had a website built by someone else a few years ago, but without regular updating and maintenance, sections of our site were no longer functional. Joanna and the rest of the team came in and had everything working within a week and it's been smooth sailing since then!

Watermelon has been a fantastic web development partner. Through every phase of our project they have always been 100% responsive to our requests and have always provided highly knowledgeable, creative, prompt, and personable team members to work with. As a financial institution we’re always concerned about the security and maintenance or our website and Watermelon has always provided the appropriate resources in order to meet and/or exceed our compliance and security requirements. We would surely refer them to any business associates looking for a qualified WordPress web designer in the future. – Denali Federal Credit Union
Watermelon Web Works did a great job creating a custom shopping cart page for our firm. Gavynn in particular was especially helpful and responsive. We appreciated the upfront costs and the technical competency of Watermelon Web Works and would not hesitate to work with the people there again.

I cannot say enough good things about Watermelon. They are terrific communicators, highly competent coders, and really, really nice people. They were instrumental in helping us to assemble a very usable, easily maintainable website for our organization. They' have demonstrated great flexibility in accommodating our evolving needs. They have been highly responsive to any technical issues, typically resolving them in less than 4 hours. Watermelon Web Works will make your organization better, and your CFO/Treasurer will be happy when they see the bill - what more can you ask for?
