Seattle Web Design and Development

Websites built for the way your Seattle business works

Your website needs to explain what you do, help people take the next step, and make life easier for the team behind it. That takes thoughtful design, dependable development, and a clear understanding of your business.

Watermelon Web Works provides web design and development for businesses and organizations in Seattle and the greater Puget Sound region. Based in Portland, we have been building and supporting websites since 2002. We bring Pacific Northwest perspective, experienced developers, and practical advice to new websites, redesigns, and projects that have outgrown their original setup.

Start with what your website needs to accomplish

A professional-services firm needs qualified inquiries. A nonprofit needs clear paths to donations, programs, and participation. An online store needs customers to find the right product and complete their purchase. A manufacturer may need to organize technical specifications and route inquiries to the right person.

We begin by understanding your audience, your priorities, and the work your website needs to support. For an existing site, we also look at what is already working, where visitors get stuck, and which tasks create unnecessary work for your staff. That gives the project a useful foundation before design or development begins.

Seattle web design with clear content and useful navigation

Seattle organizations often serve several audiences at once: local customers, regional partners, prospective employees, and buyers across the country. Your website needs to help each group find its way without making the homepage explain everything.

We organize your content around the questions visitors bring to the site. Then we develop a visual design that reflects your brand, makes important information easy to scan, and gives each page a clear purpose.

Mobile usability and accessibility are part of that work from the beginning. Readable text, clear contrast, keyboard navigation, useful page headings, and straightforward forms help more people use your website successfully. We pay attention to how the site behaves on a phone, including menus, product details, contact options, and checkout.

Web development that connects your site to your business

A website can do much more than publish information. It can collect project inquiries, accept donations, manage registrations, sell products, and exchange information with the systems your team already uses.

Our developers work with WordPress, WooCommerce, Magento, and custom PHP applications. We build and improve the features that make those platforms useful for your particular organization, including:

  • Custom WordPress websites: Flexible page layouts and organized content that your staff can update confidently.
  • Ecommerce: Product catalogs, checkout, shipping rules, payment processing, and wholesale purchasing workflows.
  • Forms and registrations: Intake forms, applications, event signups, and donation processes that collect the right information.
  • Business integrations: Connections to CRMs, email platforms, inventory systems, scheduling tools, and custom APIs.
  • Performance improvements: Work on code, images, databases, caching, and hosting to address the causes of slow pages.

We choose the technical approach around your requirements and the people who will maintain it. The result needs to work for your visitors today and remain manageable as your organization grows.

Redesign your website with a plan for what matters

If your current website is difficult to update, confusing to navigate, or struggling with aging software, we can help you decide what to improve and what to rebuild. Sometimes a focused set of changes is enough. Other projects benefit from a new structure and a cleaner technical foundation.

Before replacing an existing site, we identify important content, search landing pages, integrations, and features your team depends on. We plan redirects where URLs change, carry over useful metadata, and test essential functions before launch.

For businesses serving Seattle and surrounding communities, we also help organize service and location content so visitors can understand where you work and what you offer. Each page needs useful information that reflects the service, rather than repeating the same copy with a different city name.

A clear process from planning through launch

You do not need to arrive with a complete technical specification. Tell us what you want to accomplish, what is frustrating you, and any deadlines or constraints. We will help turn that into a defined scope.

  1. Plan: Establish goals, review the existing site, and define content, features, responsibilities, and priorities.
  2. Design: Develop the page structure and visual direction, with opportunities for your team to review and give feedback.
  3. Build: Implement the approved design, configure the editing tools, and develop the required functionality.
  4. Test and launch: Check mobile layouts, forms, integrations, links, redirects, and the production setup.
  5. Support: Help your team manage the site and establish the ongoing care it needs.

WordPress support after your website launches

Launch is the beginning of your website’s working life. Software changes, content grows, and new business needs emerge. Having developers who understand the site makes those changes easier to handle.

Our Seattle WordPress maintenance services provide ongoing help with updates, security, backups, performance, troubleshooting, and custom functionality. We support websites we build and sites inherited from other developers, including WooCommerce stores and WordPress sites with important business integrations.

Seattle web design & development FAQs

Are you actually in Seattle, or just on the same side of the country?

Our team is based in Portland, and we serve Seattle and the greater Puget Sound region. We share your Pacific time-zone schedule, love of the Seahawks and craft beer, and handle planning, design reviews, development, and support online. You work with a friendly and highly capable Pacific Northwest team that has been building and supporting websites since 2002.

We’re a Seattle business, but our customers are everywhere. Can the website do both?

Yes. We structure your website around the audiences you serve, whether they are across town or across the country. Local services, online products, partner inquiries, and industry resources can each have a clear path without competing for space on the homepage.

Our designer has the vision. Can you handle the nuts and bolts?

Yes. We can build from designs supplied by your designer or marketing team, or manage design and development together. Before development begins, we clarify layouts, mobile behavior, content responsibilities, and functionality so the finished website reflects the design and works well in practice.

Does our website need a rebuild, or just a little professional attention?

We review the existing site and your goals before recommending a rebuild. Better navigation, improved templates, faster pages, or repairs to specific features may be enough. If the underlying structure is making every change difficult, we will explain what a rebuild would solve and help define a practical scope.

Can our staff change a headline without accidentally rearranging the universe?

Yes. We build editing tools around the content your staff needs to manage, such as services, team profiles, products, resources, and news. For WordPress projects, reusable blocks and defined layouts make routine edits straightforward while keeping the design consistent.

Can you connect our website to the systems we already use?

Yes. We develop and troubleshoot connections to CRMs, email platforms, inventory systems, scheduling tools, payment services, and custom APIs. We start by mapping what information needs to move, where it belongs, and how your team will know if a connection fails.

Will our Seattle website look good on a phone—or just technically fit?

We design for how people actually use a phone. That means readable content, useful navigation, comfortable buttons, and forms that are easy to complete. For ecommerce sites, we also pay attention to product selection, cart behavior, and checkout on smaller screens.

We’ve earned some search traffic. Can we keep it through a redesign?

We plan the redesign around the search value your site has already earned. That includes reviewing important landing pages, preserving useful content and URLs, mapping redirects where addresses change, and carrying over relevant metadata. Rankings can fluctuate, but careful migration planning reduces avoidable losses.

What does a Seattle website project cost—the useful answer?

The cost depends on the design, content, features, integrations, and condition of any existing site. Send us your current website, priorities, budget range, and target launch date. We will recommend a practical scope and provide an estimate based on the work involved.

After launch, do you stick around?

Yes. We provide ongoing development and support after launch, including help with content changes, new features, performance, and troubleshooting. Our Seattle WordPress maintenance services also cover updates, security, backups, and ongoing care for WordPress and WooCommerce websites.

Tell us what your website needs to do

Whether you are planning a new website, updating an established Seattle business site, or trying to resolve a difficult development problem, we can help you find a sensible path forward.

Send us your website and project priorities. Include what you want to improve, any essential features, and your target timing. We will review the details and help define the next step.

My previous web developer who I was very happy with retired and I was pretty sad about it because it seems now days it is hard to hire a web developer close by with a good set of skills who is interested in helping small business at reasonable prices. Then I found Watermelon and I have been very happy. They are responsive, are able to solve problems, and work at reasonable prices.

Great work and amazing service! We're a non-profit, and our priorities are always focused on maintaining the Astoria Column. We had a website built by someone else a few years ago, but without regular updating and maintenance, sections of our site were no longer functional. Joanna and the rest of the team came in and had everything working within a week and it's been smooth sailing since then!

Watermelon has been a fantastic web development partner. Through every phase of our project they have always been 100% responsive to our requests and have always provided highly knowledgeable, creative, prompt, and personable team members to work with. As a financial institution we’re always concerned about the security and maintenance or our website and Watermelon has always provided the appropriate resources in order to meet and/or exceed our compliance and security requirements. We would surely refer them to any business associates looking for a qualified WordPress web designer in the future. – Denali Federal Credit Union
